The EI's Environment Management Group (EMG) is
concerned with conducting or sponsoring cost-effective
scientific and technical work related to the impact the oil
industry has on the environment. In particular it aims to
provide scientific data on which the industry can base
its stance on environmental issues; develop codes and
protocols to promote good environmental practice; and
promote discussion and facilitate understanding of technical
issues facing the industry.
The technical work is managed through a series of work
groups, addressing issues such as oil spills, microbial
spoilage, soil, waste and groundwater issues, emissions
reduction and air quality. Much of the research is carried
out in partnership with other relevant and interested
organisations, in particular the Environment Agency (EA),
the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), the
Department for Transport, Local Government and the
Regions (DTLR) and other industry groups.
